The rent-vs-buy question comes down to your timeline, cash flow, and goals — not a one-size-fits-all rule.
Renting makes sense when: you expect to relocate within 2-3 years, you want flexibility, or you would rather invest your deposit elsewhere while property prices in your target area stabilize.
Buying makes sense when: you plan to stay put for 5+ years, you want to build equity instead of paying down someone else's mortgage, or you are buying offplan at a price below where the area is trending.
A simple gut check: if your monthly rent is close to what a mortgage repayment would be on a similar unit, and you can comfortably raise a deposit, buying often wins over a long horizon. Run your own numbers with our payment calculator.
